Race for the Open Queens Assembly Seat Has Unified the Democratic Attorney General Candidates

New York - Signaling the statewide importance of the race for the open Assembly seat in the 39th district, the Democratic contenders for state Attorney General lined up behind the campaign of community activist Francisco Moya today.  The candidates’ united endorsement was meant as both a pledge of support for Francisco Moya and a unified rejection of the campaign of disgraced politician Hiram Monserrate.

State Assemblyman Richard Brodsky said, “I spent much of my time in the Assembly working to clean up Albany, to make the state more accountable and to end abuses throughout government. We need more people in the Assembly, and in government in general, who are willing to take up that fight.  I know Francisco Moya will do that.  He will help clean up Albany.  It is not in anyone’s’ interest to return to leadership that has failed to live up to the most basic tenets of law and ethical behavior.  Francisco has my full support, and he should have the support of everyone who wants to improve our state government.”

Sean Coffey said, “”Francisco Moya has spent his career fighting for justice, equality and fairness on behalf of his community - and now it’s time to send him to the legislature to continue fighting for the people of Queens. New Yorkers need new leaders and new voices like Mr. Moya to help clean up corruption in Albany and get our government working for the people again, not the special interests.  I’m proud to endorse him in this important race and will do whatever I can to help him win.  Hiram Monserrate is grossly unqualified to be part of our growing reform movement and should instead focus on reforming himself.  His many abuses range from the physically violent to the deep abuse of public trust that came as a result of his abhorrent behavior.  Hiram Monserrate is a criminal who is part of the problem, not the solution.”

Former State Insurance Superintendent Eric Dinallo said,  “Hiram Monserrate forfeited his opportunity to serve the people of the New York with his disgraceful actions. New Yorkers deserve representatives who put the public interest ahead of their own. Francisco Moya will bring the type of leadership Albany needs so that we can work to reform our government and strengthen our state.”

“Hiram Monserrate is unfit to serve the public and it’s time to turn the page,” said Senator Eric Schneiderman, who led the effort to investigate and remove Hiram Monserrate from office. “I have worked with Francisco Moya and I’m confident that he will bring integrity and respect to this office and always work to advance a progressive agenda. Francisco Moya is the right person for this job, and he has my full support.”

Francisco Moya’s assembly campaign has already won the unified support of leaders in Queens, including Congressman and Queens Democratic Leader Joseph Crowley, State Senator José Peralta, Assemblymember Michael DenDekker , City Councilmembers Julissa Ferreras and Daniel Dromm, and one-time rival for the open assembly seat Brian Pu-Folkes.  Just this week, Francisco was endorsed by citywide leaders including New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, former New York City Comptroller Bill Thompson and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer.

Francisco Moya’s campaign also has the backing of the Queens County Democratic Party, the Hotel Trades Council (HTC), the Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union (RWDSU), the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), SEIU Local 32BJ and the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association.
